PeekNote / Legal
Privacy Policy
The short version
PeekNote is built to keep your work on your Mac. Screenshots, Boards and notebooks are stored locally and never leave your device unless you turn on Sync or ask PeekNote AI about them. You can use PeekNote without an account. We don't sell personal information, we don't show ads, and we don't use your content to train AI models.
PeekNote AI, included with Pro, works only when you ask. It sends only what you choose, through our server, to Anthropic to create the answer. Our server keeps usage counts, not your content or the answers.
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party trackers. Its fonts are served from the same place as the site.
Our newsletter is opt-in, with a confirmation email before you're added. If you subscribe, we see when newsletter emails are opened and which links are clicked. Confirmation and account emails aren't tracked.
Who we are
PeekNote is made by Saygin Saman ("PeekNote", "we", "us"). If you have a question about this policy or your information, email us at hello@peeknote.xyz.
What this policy covers
This policy applies to:
- this website;
- the PeekNote apps for Mac and iPad (the "App"); and
- the optional PeekNote account and Sync service (the "Service").
It doesn't cover third-party tools you choose to connect PeekNote to, such as coding agents. Those are described in "Coding agents and other tools" below.
What stays on your device
When you use the App, your screenshots, annotations, Boards, notebooks and settings are stored in your user library on your device. PeekNote captures your screen only when you start a capture yourself, and it only saves the region you select.
Sending a screenshot or Board to a coding agent happens on your device: PeekNote writes the exported image to a local cache folder (removed after about a week) and opens the agent you chose. PeekNote does not upload that export.
Information we collect
When you visit this website. We don't set cookies or run analytics. Like any website, our hosting provider, Vercel, automatically receives standard request information (such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Vercel keeps these logs only for a limited time, under its own privacy policy.
When you use the App without an account. We don't receive anything. The App works entirely offline.
When you create an account. We collect your email address, a display name, and your password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider). If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email address and an account identifier from that provider. To show you which devices are signed in, we keep a random installation identifier for each device, its name and when it was last active.
When you turn on Sync. We store the Boards and notebooks you sync, the images inside them, and up to 20 earlier versions of each so you can restore them. Screenshots are uploaded only if you separately turn on Screenshot sync. Synced documents are private to your account but are not end-to-end encrypted.
When you use PeekNote AI. PeekNote AI is part of Pro and needs an account. The first time you use it, the App explains what is sent and asks for your consent. A request is sent only when you ask, and it contains your instruction and only the material you chose, shown as chips you can remove before sending: the selection, the page in front, a screenshot or part of it, PDF pages you pick, files you pick with Ask About Files…, and linked items only if you choose Include Linked Context. Screenshots are sent as they look with your redactions applied, so redacted areas never leave your device, and images are sent without location, date or device details. Before anything is sent, the App removes API keys, tokens and private keys, and asks first about text that looks like a password.
The request goes to our server, which checks your plan and fair-use limits and passes the content to Anthropic to create the answer. Our server doesn't log or store the content of requests or answers: no prompts, responses, note text, code, images or handwriting. For each request it keeps usage information linked to your account: the feature, platform, time, how long it took, token and image counts, estimated cost, whether it succeeded, what you did with the result (for example applied, copied or undone) and any rating you give.
When you subscribe to our newsletter. The newsletter is optional, and you get it only if you opt in. When you use the sign-up form on this website, we email you a confirmation link, and you're added only after you confirm; if you don't, your address isn't added to the list. If the App offers the newsletter, it will stay off unless you turn it on, and it will use your account's email address. We keep your email address on our newsletter list and when you subscribed. Newsletter emails include a small tracking image and links that pass through our email provider, Resend, so we can see whether an email was opened and which links were clicked, along with the time and basic technical details such as your IP address and email app or browser. Your email app may load or block images on its own, so these records aren't always accurate.
When you contact us. We keep the emails you send us and our replies so we can help you.
How we use information
We use the information above to:
- provide, secure and maintain your account and Sync;
- apply plan limits and any Pro entitlement on your account;
- provide PeekNote AI, apply its fair-use limits, and understand its cost and quality from usage counts;
- send the newsletter and other marketing emails you've subscribed to, and learn which ones are useful from opens and clicks;
- respond to support requests;
- detect and prevent abuse; and
- meet legal obligations.
We send marketing email only if you've opted in. Emails about your account, such as sign-in and password-reset emails, aren't marketing and don't track opens or clicks.
We don't sell or rent personal information, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't use your screenshots, Boards or notes to train machine learning models. Anthropic doesn't use PeekNote AI requests to train its models either (see Service providers).
Coding agents and other tools
When you send to Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, PeekNote starts that tool on your device and gives it the exported image, your instruction and your chosen project folder. What happens next is up to that tool and its provider, whose own terms and privacy policies apply. PeekNote has no access to your conversations with those tools.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run the Service:
- Supabase, Inc. for authentication, database and file storage, hosted in the United States (US East, N. Virginia);
- Stripe, Inc. to process Pro subscriptions. We share your email address and account ID with Stripe, and Stripe collects your payment details on its own checkout page, so we never see your card number;
- Anthropic, PBC to create PeekNote AI answers. It receives the content of each AI request, not your name, email address or account ID. Under its commercial terms it doesn't use that content to train its models, and it keeps it only for a limited time under its own privacy policy;
- Resend to send account emails (such as sign-in and password-reset emails) and newsletter emails, including the confirmation email when you subscribe. It also keeps the newsletter list and, for newsletter emails, records opens and clicks for us;
- Google and Apple, only if you choose to sign in with them; and
- Vercel Inc. to serve this website.
They process information only on our instructions and under data protection terms.
How long we keep information
We keep account information and synced documents for as long as your account is active. Turning off Sync or signing out never deletes anything. PeekNote AI usage records are kept while your account is active. Your newsletter subscription lasts until you unsubscribe; after that we keep only your email address on a do-not-email list, so you aren't added again by mistake. Resend keeps sending and engagement records for a limited time under its own policies. If you delete your account, we delete your account information, synced documents and AI usage records within 30 days, except where we must keep something to meet a legal obligation. Documents stay on your devices.
Your choices and rights
You can use PeekNote without an account, keep Sync off, and turn Screenshot sync off at any time. The newsletter is opt-in: unsubscribe with the link at the bottom of every newsletter email or by emailing us, and turn off automatic image loading in your email app if you don't want opens recorded. You don't have to use PeekNote AI, you can remove any source before an AI request is sent, and you can withdraw your AI consent in Settings › AI (Ask Again Before Sending). Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, email hello@peeknote.xyz. We'll answer within the time the law requires, and we won't treat you differently for asking.
If you're in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Security
Connections between the App and the Service are encrypted in transit. The key PeekNote uses to reach Anthropic exists only on our server, never in the App. Your session is stored in your device's Keychain, and database rules ensure each account can reach only its own documents. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Children
PeekNote isn't directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
International transfers
If you use the Service from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or wherever our providers operate. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we'll update the effective date above and, when the change affects account holders, tell you in the App or by email before it takes effect.
